Mayan Ruins
The Tulum Ruins are the site of a walled Mayan city and served as the port on the road to Cobá. Built on 30ft cliffs on the eastcoast of the Yucatan Peninsula the Tulum Ruins overlook the Caribbean sea. The Tulum Ruins are a short drive from Casa Tortuga, about 10 minutes.
Coba is another site for Mayan Ruins. They are larger than the Tulum Ruins and located inland. They are surrounded by a lush jungle. You can rent a bike and ride around the ruins, or take a walking tour. The road to Coba is lined with small villages selling hand crafted souvenirs and honey. Coba is about an 1 and 20 minutes from Casa Tortuga and makes for a wonderful day trip!
Into the Wild
Close to Casa Tortuga are several adventures such as underground cenotes filled with crystaline water that flow beneath the Mayan Riviera. These Cenotes make for great snorkeling and diving adventures. The best cenotes are located on the road to Coba and are a great stopping point travelling to and from the ruins. Some cenotes even offer ziplinning through the caverns and guided tours.
Also on the road to Coba is Punta Laguna Nature Reserve . We highly recommend this trip! Punta Laguna Nature Reserve is full of wild monkeys, the Guides are locals in the area and have studied the monkeys. They guide you to the best viewing spots to see the monkeys. The tour takes you through the jungle to a large natural lagoon where you can swim and cool off in the middle of your jungle hike.
The best snorkeling in the area is conveniently located in Soliman Bay at Casa Tortuga. A large barrier reef blocks the waves and allows for superb snorkeling. You can swim out to the reef our take out Casa Tortuga’s Kayaks. Enjoy watching the natural sea life, exotic fishes and of course the Tortugas!
Party Animals
Tulum is the closest city from Casa Tortuga about a 10 minute drive. It is has a very relaxed vibe and is full of shopping, and eating. There are also a few bars at night for those who want to explore the night life. Along the Tulum Beach there are also Bars and Clubs.
Playa Del Carmen is about 30 minutes north of Casa Tortuga. Playa Del Carmen is a great city if you want to spend a sophisticated night of dinning and wining, and is also a filled with clubs, and bars for all the party animals! Playa del Carmen is a beach front city with an active nightlife there is a large pedestrian area that you can bar hop in.
