Casa Tortuga is located in the private community of Soliman Bay, in the Mayan Riviera- Quintana Roo, Mexico about 110 km (66 miles) south of the Cancun airport. The beautiful Akumal Bay is 11 km north and the small city of Tulum is 11 km south. The entrance road to Soliman Bay is 4 km south of the entrance to the Xel-Ha snorkel park.

The closest international airports are Cancun Airport (CUN) and Cozumel Airport (CZM).

Is this part of Mexico safe?
A recent edition of The Economist reported that the violent crime rate in the Maya Rivera tourist area of Mexico was less than that reported in Canada, a country with a very low crime rate. Like all vacation destinations travellers must be aware of their surroundings, and careful with their personal property. Soliman Bay is a gated community protected by 24 hour on site security.
What should I pack for my trip? The weather is generally warm, with occasional rain. The night time temperature rarely drops below 60 degrees F, even during the coldest months of winter. We recommend you bring clothing for a tropical environment. Shorts, short sleeve shirts, swim suits, coverups and sandals is perefect daily wear. Bring at least one pair of light weight pants and a long sleeve shirt or sweat shirt. A lightweight rain proof jacket or windbreaker is a good idea for travel in late December and January. Hicking shoes or sandals will be needed for treks through the forest and jungle and for long walks. If you are a runner, feel free to bring your gear. Sunglasses and a hat should be packed for the summer months when the days are long, the sun is high and the temperatures are hot. If you forget to pack essentials, several shops in the area sell lip gloss, sunscreen and bug spray.
What household items and amenities are included with the house rental?
Casa Tortuga is fully furnished and domestic supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels and bath and dish soap are provided. Guests are provided with hand towels, wash cloths, bath towels and beach towels. Bed linens are changed as needed. Five gallon bottles of purified water are located in all bathrooms and in the kitchen. Potable water is trucked in from the water treatment facility in Tulum. Because water must be trucked in and is an expensive commodity, we ask that our guests conserve as much as possible to keep the rental costs reasonable. The house is serviced by a closed septic system, so guests are discouraged from flushing paper products, including toilet paper, into the septic system. The two bedrooms at the beach level are airconditioned. The second story kitchen, living room and bedrooms are not. Ceiling fans are located throughout the house.
The kitchen is a full kitchen, equipped with a standard size range and oven for baking, a toaster over, a blender and a microwave oven. The house does not have a mechanical dishwasher. Table service is provided for up to 12 people. The kitchen table seats 8 and smaller, custom sized tables may be pushed together to extend the table seating to 12. A large table that can easily accomodate 12-14 people is located on the beach level. A barbque grill and a hot and cold water and sink are located near the outdoor table.
The house is also equipped with a washer and gas dryer. Guests have the option to travel extremely light and launder clothing by making arrangements for laundry service with Gaby, the housekeeper. Gaby will wash, dry, fluff and fold guest laundry for $75 pesos per load, time permitting.
What kind of activities can I do in the area?
In the area you can find cenotes, zip-lining, Mayan Ruins to explore, cenotes to dive in, and of course lounging on the beach.
